- I’m managing editor of the “Our Bodies, Ourselves” book (Simon & Schuster, 2011), which was created by the amazing nonprofit, public interest women’s health organization Our Bodies Ourselves. I edited the chapter “The Politics of Women’s Health” in the 2005 edition, and since 2006 I’ve covered health and public policy at Our Bodies, Our Blog, which I helped to design and launch.
- As a freelance editor, I’ve worked on a coming-of-age memoir; a book on social networks and political activism; a book on politics and communication strategies; essays by women celebrating life at age 40+; political commentaries; pop culture reviews; and consumer financial information. I have extensive experience editing news and cultural criticism.
- Recent articles include The Culture of “K-Ville” (The American Prospect), a look at fictional representations of post-Katrina New Orleans, and Testimony for Justice (DePaul University Magazine), about the documentation of human rights violations during Saddam Hussein’s regime.
Older
- At ms.musings, the blog I created and wrote for Ms. magazine (2002-2005), I covered politics and culture and analyzed media coverage of women’s issues. The site is no more, but sample posts include: (TK)
- PopPolitics is the online magazine-turned-group blog I founded in 2000. Through 2004 (and occasionally since then), I edited submissions, working closely with established and up-and-coming writers. I coordinated special issues on topics such as religion, crime, war, kids and work.
Older Still
- I covered government and crime for the Rutland (Vt.) Herald in the late ’90s. For a city with a relatively low murder rate, I ended up reporting on quite a few, including an internet-based murder that led to the state’s first death penalty case in 40 years. My stories on that subject won a first-place award from the Vermont Press Association.
- My first job was at a weekly paper in Westchester County, N.Y. I loved almost every minute of it (minus the pay) and won numerous New York Press Association awards for feature writing, in-depth reporting and coverage of local government and education.
